After finishing my Masters in Chemical Engineering with a year in industry at Air Products \u2013 a global industrial gases company &#8211; I joined them in 2014 on their engineering development programme.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, I\u2019ve completed assignments in supply chain while living in Brussels, Process controls, and Hydrogen energy systems and I\u2019m now employed in a permanent role as a process engineer in the Operations Department. Each day I get to put my troubleshooting, optimisation and design skills to the test supporting facilities across in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Joining a grad scheme with different assignments has allowed me to travel all over Europe and work in are<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-749 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/ceasblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/06\/10-years-ben-lane-truck.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>as different from pure chemical engineering, but the skillset and fundamentals gained from my time at CE have been key in all of the roles.<\/p>\n<p>Studying at Manchester set me up with the skills I need in my everyday work, and the Department\u2019s reputation is well respected with employers in engineering and beyond.
