Summary

Fast fashion substantially contributes to the overproduction and overconsumption of clothing, which has led to an exponential rise in textile waste, with 140 million GBP worth of clothing lost to landfill per annum. Once discarded, it pollutes and contaminates biodiversity, which has negative impacts on surrounding local communities. Circular economies are a solution that seek to eliminate waste and pollution, keep materials in use, and regenerate natural systems. This project investigates whether circular economies within the fashion industry could be enhanced by the application of Blockchain technology, an innovation that has only recently been adopted by brands to improve their supply chain transparency, traceability, and information security."
