Keynote:\u00a0How I cracked a PhD,<\/em>\u00a0by Dr Timothy Crump<\/em>“<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Timothy Crump <\/strong>received his Engineering Doctorate from the School of MACE at the University of Manchester in 2017.\u00a0 During his research, he determined the conditions required for dynamic \u201cprompt secondary cracking\u201d phenomenon to occur in nuclear reactor core graphite bricks, which can compromise the entire core integrity. The progress he made underpins security of energy supply in the UK for years to come. His achievements earned him the Spark! 2016 Environment award and he was highlighted as a future leader of the nuclear industry. This lead him to become an Innovation Director of Spark! 2017 and he represented the University of Manchester at the highly prestigious World Nuclear Exhibition and the 2016 Troph\u00e9es de la Recherche et Developpment (R&D) in Paris. While achieving this he represented the University as a STEM ambassador, National Energy CDT ambassador and Diversity Champion for the Inter-Engineering Charity. This was in addition to providing outstanding inspiration as a Tutor to 500+ students as a Residential Life Advisor and teaching on the University\u2019s Foundation course.\u00a0 He was awarded University of Manchester PGR Student of the Year 2017 for his achievements!\u00a0 He has now moved onto working as a Physicist at AWE PLC.
