WRONG! And oh how wrong I was. Never have I seen a community much less a faculty so dedicated to making their international students feel at home. From the paper lanterns and Chinese symbols to the flyers with pigs on the wall, it was absolutely a breath of fresh air to experience the Chinese culture first hand. But it didn\u2019t stop there!<\/p>\n<p>To my excitement, the School of Mathematics planned to continue the festivities by hosting its 2nd Annual Chinese New Year Celebrations on the 1st of February. At first I thought, maybe this is only for Chinese students&#8230;maybe I shouldn\u2019t check it out. However, out of curiosity, I decided to give it a shot. I\u2019m so glad I did!<\/p>\n<p>Upon entering, I was greeted by the musical stylings of the Confucius Chinese Choir.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-628 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image02-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"671\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image02-1.jpg 671w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image02-1-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, I wasn\u2019t quite sure what they were saying, but it was delightful listening to them while I munched on some fortune cookies, spring rolls and Chinese candy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-629 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image03-2-800x409.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following this, each person had the option to immerse themselves further into the culture by either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trying their hand at calligraphy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-631 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image08-2-800x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chopsticks and marbles game<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-630 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image07-1-688x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"494\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dressing up in Chinese traditional wear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-627 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image12-1-578x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"494\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Making an origami masterpiece (I made a pig haha)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-626 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image10-2-800x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bracelet making<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-633 size-uom-post-size\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/maths-student-blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2019\/03\/KHanson_image05-2-800x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was an experience I\u2019ll never forget.
