Clearing team can help you explore a wide choice of opportunities
UOM life 17th August 2016
A-Level results day and the clearing period can be a stressful time for students – but applicants can also take the opportunity to talk to the experts and explore wider opportunities.
Hopefully you will have achieved the results you wanted and perhaps you did even better than you expected. However, if you did not quite get the grades you hoped for – and I was one of those students many moons ago – do not panic, there are many options to consider through adjustment and clearing.
It’s important to remember that there are experienced people on hand to give clear advice just when you need it most at the other end of a dedicated hotline [0161 275 2077].
The clearing period is always a very busy period for universities and The University of Manchester’s clearing centre will have 28 fully trained staff supporting enquirers from 8am to 6pm on Thursday 18th August and 8am to 5pm Friday 19th August.
This team will be able to discuss options with potential students and we have a limited number of places available for outstanding candidates.
I’m in charge of admissions at the School of Earth and the Environmental Sciences and will be joining my colleagues this week to help give advice on opportunities that applicants may not be aware of.
For example, our Geology and Environmental Sciences courses provide an exciting window into the world all around us – but you don’t necessarily need previous experience of Geology or Environmental Science before studying with us.
Clearing and adjustment therefore provides students with an excellent opportunity to consider wider choices and still access study in an important subject area that has strong career prospects at a truly global institution in a vibrant city.
You can apply for courses during the clearing and adjustment period via the UCAS system and there are very useful guides on the UCAS website. https://www.ucas.com/ucas/undergraduate/apply-and-track/results/clearing-service-2016.
Students can keep up to date with vacancies in real time on our dedicated web-page at: http://www.manchester.ac.uk/clearing.
