The University puts its best foot forward for UK Commissioner’s visit
UOM life 30th March 2017
This week we welcomed Charles Hendry, the UK Commissioner for the UK Pavilion at the Expo 2017 in Astana, to the University. He is leading the UK’s representation at the Expo and came to the University on a fact-finding mission. Whilst here he spent time at the National Graphene Institute learning about graphene; one of the most transformational technologies of our age, before meeting with Professor Martin Schrӧder, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, to find out more about the world-leading work that the University is carrying out in the fields of advanced materials and energy.
Throughout the three-month long exposition the University’s work in energy, advanced materials, industrial biotech and health innovation will be showcased to over two-million visitors. Our work will help the UK Government to promote the UK as a place to live, work and study.
Charles Hendry said of the University’s involvement: “I am delighted that The University of Manchester, a world-leading university, has become one of the UK Pavilion’s official sponsors.
“Through its expertise in advanced materials, energy, industrial biotech and health innovation, The University of Manchester is a great example of what makes the UK education sector so exceptional.”
Throughout the Expo an exciting business and cultural programme will be delivered through the UK Pavilion which has the theme of ‘We are Energy’. It will demonstrate new technologies from across the UK energy sector and provide an outstanding visitor attraction. The University will actively link into these activities and as we draw closer to the Expo, we will be able to share more of our planned programme with you.
Until then you can find out more about the Expo 2017 on the official Expo website and through the University’s main news channels.
