It can be a controversial topic for some; for others, it has fantastic potential as a cleaner, greener energy source.<\/p>\n<p>We therefore wanted to find out more about this fascinating field and, importantly, what the future holds for it.<\/p>\n<p>Answering our questions are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.manchester.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/researchers\/aneeqa-khan(7574a531-5238-49b3-a08f-fe8e9dcd4c11).html\">Dr Aneeqa Khan<\/a>, a Harwell Research Fellow in Nuclear Fusion in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mace.manchester.ac.uk\/\">Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.manchester.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/researchers\/laura-leay(956a149a-4dab-4e9c-8121-71dcedb265f5).html\">Dr Laura Leay<\/a>, a Dalton Fellow in Nuclear Engineering Innovation.<\/p>\n<p>We discuss nuclear fusion and fission &#8211; and the important differences between the two &#8211; as well as the potential for nuclear energy, both now and in the future, plus the unique challenges this research area faces.<\/p>\n<p>Could nuclear be the answer to our future energy needs?
