This provided invaluable insights, allowing us to engage with students, staff and external stakeholders to refine our approach. After careful consideration a new, streamlined structure comprising five departments will be operational from 1 August 2024:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (New)<\/li><li>Department of Civil Engineering and Management (New)<\/li><li>Department of Chemical Engineering<\/li><li>Department of Computer Science<\/li><li>Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This restructure will create departments of similar scale, improving the allocation of teaching duties and streamlining communication and support processes to provide a better experience for our students, staff and partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits for research<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The five-department structure will foster a more collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. It allows for the establishment of new centre, groupings, and interdisciplinary activities. This change will enhance our capacity to innovate and address complex engineering challenges, promoting cutting-edge research that has real-world impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits for students<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Current and prospective students will benefit from a community closely tied to their programme of study, whilst also have access to the wider School of Engineering and interdisciplinary learning that brings leading to a more enriching and effective learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are committed to ensuring a smooth introduction of this new structure. As we transition, you may see references to the former Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
