Student feedback has been very positive, but the staff were keen to take advantage of the first opportunity to run some day trips to build core skills in rock description and to develop an understanding of scale and the evolution of the basins.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester is surrounded by some great places to go, the Derbyshire Pennines to the east, with Carboniferous carbonates and clastics, and to the east, the Triassic red beds, exposed along the coast and in some inland outcrops.\u00a0 All no more than one hour\u2019s drive.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1599\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_1599\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-uom-post-size wp-image-1599\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/sees\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2021\/06\/Compound-bar-1-768x494.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/sees\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2021\/06\/Compound-bar-1.png 768w, https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/sees\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2021\/06\/Compound-bar-1-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_1599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beautiful compound bar forms from a Triassic river that was flowing across the Wirral 200 million years ago!
