Eleven academics from The University of Manchester were awarded in total.<\/p>\n<p>The academics from the University\u2019s Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) have been awarded for pioneering research advances within their respective fields, which range from\u00a0inorganic chemistry\u00a0to two-dimensional materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Royal Society of Chemistry\u2019s Prizes and Awards are awarded in recognition of originality and impact of research, or for each winner\u2019s contribution to the chemical sciences industry or education. They also acknowledge the importance of teamwork across the chemical sciences, as well as the abilities of individuals to develop successful collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>Full list of RSC Prize Winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Anthony Green &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/dr-anthony-green\/\">Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dr Jordi Bures &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/dr-jordi-bures\/\">Hickinbottom Award<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dr Radha Boya &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/dr-radha-boya\/\">Marlow Award<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dr Sihai Yang &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/dr-sihai-yang\/\">Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Cinzia Casiraghi &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-cinzia-casiraghi\/\">Gibson-Fawcett Award<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor David Procter &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-david-procter\/\">Charles Rees Award<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Martin Schr\u00f6der &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-martin-schroder\/\">Nyholm Prize for Inorganic Chemistry<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Sabine Flitsch &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-sabine-flitsch\/\">Bioorganic Chemistry Award<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Stephen Liddle &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-stephen-liddle\/\">Tilden Prize<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Vernon Gibson &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/professor-vernon-gibson\/\">Lord Lewis Prize<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Professor Nik Kaltsoyannis &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org\/awards-funding\/awards\/2020-winners\/the-distinctive-consortium\/#undefined\">Industry-Academia collaboration award<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Professor Martin Schr\u00f6der, Vice President and Dean\u00a0for FSE,\u00a0has been named the winner of the Royal Society of Chemistry\u2019s Nyholm Prize for Inorganic Chemistry.\u00a0Dr\u00a0Schr\u00f6der\u00a0won the award for seminal work on the design, synthesis and characterisation of porous metal-organic framework materials for substrate binding and selectivity.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving the award, Professor\u00a0Schr\u00f6der\u00a0said: \u201cI am deeply honoured to be awarded the 2020 Nyholm Prize for Inorganic Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry. This is a wonderful testament to the many undergraduate and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and the national and international collaborators from industry, academia and at national facilities that have contributed so much to this research programme over many years. A huge thank you to all of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe list of previous winners reads like a Who\u2019s Who of inorganic chemistry over the years, with the very first winner in 1974\/75 being Jack Lewis, who was my postdoctoral mentor, and in 2001\/2 Jon McCleverty, who was my undergraduate tutor. We all stand on the shoulders of others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe live in an era of tremendous global challenges, with the need for science recognised now more so than ever \u2013 so it is important to recognise those behind the scenes who are making significant contributions towards improving the world we live in. It is our honour and privilege to do that with these awards, which recognise exceptional scientific achievement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The global chemical sciences community is one that covers many different specialisms, from health and climate change to product development, sustainable transport, and everything in between. In recognising the work of Professor\u00a0Schr\u00f6der, we are also recognising the important contribution this incredible network of scientists makes to improving our lives every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Helen Pain, acting Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of the previous winners of Royal Society of Chemistry Awards, an illustrious list of 50 have gone on to win Nobel Prizes for their pioneering work, including 2016 Nobel laureates Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Fraser Stoddart and Ben Feringa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This follows the successes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/uomchemistryblog\/2019\/05\/manchester-scientists-win-prestigious-royal-society-of-chemistry-awards\/\">five Department of
