The School of Materials has welcomed three new academics in recent months. Read on to find out more about them.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr Kristina Brubacher<\/strong> joins the School of Materials as a Lecturer in Fashion Technology. After completing her BSc in Textile and Clothing Management (Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany), Kristina worked in the fashion industry in Germany and Australia before focusing more on functional clothing for her MSc in Clothing Product Development at Manchester Metropolitan University. Here, following another period in industry, she studied for her PhD on the design development of compression sportswear using 3D technologies<\/p>\n

Kristina\u2019s research is interdisciplinary and lies at the intersection of clothing, the body and self-identify. Her main research interests include improving the body-clothing relationship, user-centred design processes, the use of technologies to enhance clothing design and production processes and perceptual effects of clothes on wearers.<\/p>\n

Charlene Gallery<\/strong> joins us from Sheffield Hallam University as Lecturer in Fashion Marketing to cover Helen McCormick\u2019s maternity leave. At Sheffield, she worked as a Senior Lecturer and Course Team Leader on the BA and MA Fashion Management and Communication degrees, and was instrumental in writing a new degree pathway in Global Fashion Marketing. Charlene has several years\u2019 experience working in the fashion industry, both internationally and locally. She is currently working towards her PhD, and her main research interests concern the convergence of technology and its impact on the fashion consumer, the gamification of fashion and transmedia storytelling within fashion marketing. Another key research interest involves examining diversity and ethnicity issues within fashion from a consumer psychological perspective. She is also interested in developing interactive teaching and learning methods.<\/p>\n

Dr Beatriz Mingo<\/strong><\/a> joins us as a Presidential Fellow. Beatriz graduated in Chemistry (2011), completed her MSc in Materials Science (2012) and defended her PhD (2016) at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), during which she studied different strategies to improve the corrosion resistance of aluminium and magnesium alloys with potential application in the transport industry. She joined the School as a Research Associate in 2017 and worked in surface engineering based on plasma electrolytic processes. Her research interests include corrosion protection of light alloys, active protection, plasma electrolytic oxidation and smart coatings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
