This time, the industry it\u2019s leading is fast fashion \u2013 but there\u2019s a dark side to this success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.manchester.ac.uk\/portal\/patsy.perry.html\">Dr Patsy Perry<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.manchester.ac.uk\/portal\/amy.benstead.html\">Dr Amy Benstead<\/a> of the Department of Materials have spoken out about the consequences of fast fashion \u2013 both in terms of the environment and the workforce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFast fashion is so accessible, so cheap, so readily available online, fast, free delivery \u2013 it\u2019s too hard to resist,\u201d says Dr Perry, who specialises in the environmental impact of the fashion sector. \u201cA lot of the products are made from polyester and synthetic materials, which don\u2019t biodegrade.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental cost of fast fashion, they may not realise there\u2019s also a human cost.
