Mechanical testing

The Instron lab

InstronEquipped with environmental chambers (-100ºC to 350ºC), the testing machines carry high speed cameras, contacting and video extensometers. NCCEF’s Instron machines are controlled by the latest version of WaveMatrix (dynamic testing) and Bluehill (static) software and can test properties such as tensile strength/stiffness, compressive strength/stiffness, flexural properties and impact tolerance. Tests can be performed under quasi-static and fatigue conditions at sub-zero or elevated temperatures. This lab is supported by Instron Ltd as part of a collaboration to design and improve composite testing. Capabilities:Tension; Compression; Shear; Torsion; Biaxial; Flexural; Fatigue; Impact and ballistic; Strain analysis.
