What is Clearing?
Life at UoM UOM life 24th May 2024
In essence, Clearing is about choice. It’s an opportunity for students to:
- Secure a place at university if they haven’t met the conditions of their initial offers;
- Apply to university if they haven’t yet;
- Or switch to another institution.
- It could also be a chance to explore alternative pathways – maybe for students who want to explore a different subject area.

At the University of Manchester, Clearing isn’t just about filling vacancies; it’s about opening doors to new possibilities.
But how does Clearing work? It’s simple! Once A-level results are out (on Thursday 15th August 2024) and you are considering Clearing, you can check our Clearing vacancies online. Or better yet, take the pressure off searching on results day and sign up for our Science and Engineering Clearing alerts. On results day, we’ll then email you with which courses are available. If you find a course available that piques your interest, check our entry requirements and course details, and give us a call – you can find the number on our website! Be sure to have your results and UCAS ID on hand. Our dedicated team of advisors are here to assist you every step of the way, answering your questions and providing valuable guidance.
Moreover, Clearing isn’t just a last-minute resort; it’s a strategic opportunity. It allows you to take control of your academic journey and make informed decisions about your future. With our comprehensive support and extensive range of courses, the University of Manchester ensures that Clearing is not just a backup plan but a pathway to success.
So, whether you’re a high achiever striving for excellence or someone embarking on a new educational adventure, Clearing at the University of Manchester is your chance to shine. Embrace the opportunity, explore your options, and embark on an exciting new chapter of your academic journey with us!
