Pathway Profile: Geology with Physical Geography
Welcome to EES 3rd July 2019
Dr Neil Mitchell spoke to us about the Geology with Physical Geography Pathway within our undergraduate Earth and Planetary Sciences degree.
Manchester has for many years had a popular degree that combines Geography with Geology, which we have called informally the “Geog-Geol” BSc degree. For A-level students enjoying the physical aspects of Geography, the degree has provided an excellent way to continue learning about them while taking on some geology.
That tradition continues with our new Geology with Physical Geography pathway, in which students study roughly 50:50 Geography and Geology in their second and third years. New in this pathway, it offers the chance to continue into a 4th year, options for industrial and research placements, and a year studying abroad. It begins with a first year in which everyone gets a basic grounding in the sciences and methods needed for Earth and Environmental work.
If you are a physical geographer looking for great experiences, field trips are likely to be important to you. During the new pathway, you would join field trips to some spectacular locations, such as to the volcanoes of southern Italy including Vesuvius below, as well as trips closer to home around Manchester. Come and join us!
