Magnify: New research magazine launches
Departments Outreach Perspectives Research Research impact and institutes Social responsibility 7th November 2025
The Faculty of Science and Engineering have launched a brand new online magazine dedicated to showcasing the University’s research and putting fact over fiction.
Magnify is a research magazine unlike any other, removed from the rushing of stories and ‘bad news sells’ rhetoric. It prides itself on slow journalism, releasing bi-monthly issues on a single topic of public interest. The first issue, live on November 1, is ChatGPT and Security.
Each Magnify topic is chosen based on actual data, reflecting the contemporaneous nature and societal relevance of the University’s research. On the first day of every month, this chosen topic will be responded to with three long-form articles:
- ‘The Noise‘ is an unbiased overview of the topic straight from the public arena
- ‘The Expert‘ is an interview with a relevant academic, where they set the record straight
- ‘The Impact‘ is an insight into the tangible effects of this topic on local communities
Magnify’s foundations are built in trust, expertise and accessibility. The magazine’s goal is to empower the general public with fair and accurate information that prioritises people over profit.
The November issue, ChatGPT and Security, is now live. Escape the storm of everyday news, and start thinking beyond the noise.
