A Level Results Day: What to expect
Welcome to Chemistry 6th August 2020
With not long to go until you receive your A Level results, you may be wondering what happens next. Here’s our handy guide, and a bit of information about what to have to hand if you need to contact us.
Before A Level Results Day
Make sure you are able to log in to UCAS Track, check that you know your username and password. It will be much less stressful if you know that you will be able to log in on 13th August to see the outcome of your application without stressing about a forgotten password! Below are a couple of things that you might want to consider:
- Email admin: For some applicants you may wish to check your email address. If you are successful, you will be receiving a lot of very important communication from the University via email so make sure that your email address is up to date. Some schools and colleges will start to switch off email addresses for former students so make sure you won’t be affected by this. It may also be worth adding @manchester.ac.uk to your Safe Senders list so that no important information goes into your Junk email folder.
- Nominated contact: Make sure your nominated contact is up to date. If you know that you aren’t going to be available on results day make sure you have nominated someone to speak on your behalf. We are only able to discuss the outcome of your application with you or your nominated contact.
On A Level Results Morning
On 13th August, you are going to be wondering whether you have a place at your chosen University when you wake up.
From 8 am (BST), you will be able to log into UCAS Track and view the outcome of your application. If there isn’t a decision there, try not to panic. It might just mean that we don’t have all of the information that we need to make a decision yet. We recommend you collect your examination results and then get in touch with us, keeping the following in mind:
- Call, don’t email: Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone to us. Our friendly team will be on hand to have a chat with you, and trust us, it will be far quicker and less stressful than sending an email and waiting for a reply!
- Know your UCAS ID: Make sure that you have your UCAS ID to hand. This means that we will be able to bring up the details of your application whilst we are on the phone to you and have a chat about it
- Make sure you have collected your results: This is really important, one of the first questions that we ask on the phone is what your results are. This helps us to verify that we both have all of the information that we need in order to make a decision.
- When you first call you will go through to the main University hotline – they will be able to help you with a general query, but might not have all of the answers. If they can’t fully answer your enquiry then they will put you through to our Department and we will help further.
Clearing
If you have been rejected from your Firm and Insurance choices then you may find yourself in Clearing. Try not to worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds and there are many universities who will be advertising vacancies for students in your position. Take a look at the clearing vacancies page to give you an idea of what is available and whether your grades are suitable for the programme you are interested in. If it all looks good then give us a call and we can talk about it further.
One thing to bear in mind is that through clearing, although you can call us from 8 am, you won’t be able to apply for a place until 3 pm (BST) on 13th August so that you have a little time to consider your options and decide what’s best for you.
