These fellowships will provide funding for the next 5 years, allowing the researchers to further their ground-breaking work in their respective fields of Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, and Accelerator Physics.
Student experience 23rd January 2023
This week, the Nuclear and Particle Physics Society (NPPS) joins us on the blog as part of our Society Spotlights series.
Student experience 16th January 2023
Our new blog series, Society Spotlights, will be shedding light on some of the amazing physics-related societies that you can join at The University of Manchester. And who better to kick us off than PhysSoc?
Student experience 28th September 2022
This week Louisa Mason joins us on the blog. Louisa is a Master’s student who joined the university in on our Physics with an Integrated Foundation Year course. Louisa told us all about her university experience, the work she’s been doing at Manchester and her lunch with the Lovell telescope.
Welcome to Physics 4th August 2022
Do Earth-like planets exist? And, if so, how can we find them? At a 2022 event for Undergraduate Physics Offer Holders, Dr. Eamonn Kerins, Senior Lecturer in Astronomy, delivered a taster lecture: Exoplanets and the hunt for Earth-2. Eamonn delved into some of the technology and theories that allow us to explore other planets and stars from the ground.
Schuster Colloquium 26th October 2021
100 years ago, on 9 June 1921, The University of Manchester hosted renowned theoretical physicist Albert Einstein. Einstein had been touring the USA to raise funds for the proposed Hebrew University of Jerusalem, along with Chaim Weizmann, then a member of staff in the Department of Chemistry. His visit to Manchester and the University was […]
Meet the Department 21st October 2021
This week’s blog comes from Alexandra Bonta and Devina Mohan, MSc students working with Professor Anna Scaife on Bayesian deep learning for classification of pulsars and radio galaxies, and follows on from our blog post for Ada Lovelace Day. Last week we celebrated Ada Lovelace Day and heard about the scientists who inspire our staff […]
Welcome to Physics 13th September 2021
Dr Lloyd Cawthorne shares pre-university optional exercises and resources that may interest any budding physicists, as well as those already set to take on the challenges of an undergraduate physics degree!
Student experience 24th August 2021
Louisa Mason is progressing into her third year of an undergraduate Physics with Astrophysics degree, and she is also a Student Ambassador for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In this post, Louisa tells us about her experience of a Teach First internship at the end of her second year studies and the importance of inspiring high-school students to engage with STEM subjects.
After graduation 25th February 2021
We caught up with Ellen Leahy, who is a great example of how Physics degrees can open doors to a variety of careers. Graduating in 2018, Ellen has since used her studies to enter into the world of coding and big data and is now working at Apple as a Big Data Analyst. Hi Ellen, […]
